ajaysingh_iitr writes "IIT JEE Reform: Strategy--Eligible Criteria Vs New Exam Pattern –Two Different paths?
- Impact on future!
THE FINAL VISION: We are introducing new exam pattern. Why? Definitely we want more qualitative students in IIT system so they can maintain IIT Brand in the world and transform into like MIT & Stanford University (in research work). So we should check our final mission and strategy of eligible criteria. Can these eligible criteria & final mission will reach us towards our final Vision?
THE MAIN QUESTION: I think that for obtaining this FINAL MISSION (questionable), these eligible criteria are MISMATCHING or we are moving our vehicle (IIT System) on wrong route. I am just highlighting few effects of our mission and Strategy of eligible criteria that will be faced IIT System in coming years. So please very careful to all decision. Because it is a question of IIT BRAND that has been stabilized by our Great alumni, professors and students after consistent hard work.
A different picture after Recommendation of IIT JEE Reform:
Statement Issue: from JEE onward, the screening test would be done away with and the results of the class XII board examination would be factored in the admission process of the IITs. This would also restore sanity of school system and reduces the influence of the coaching classes.
So we can understand our FINAL MISSION:
1.Restored sanity of school system
2.Reduce the influence of the coaching classes
For achieving this final mission our STRATEGY or we can say that eligible criteria:
1.Candidate appearing in (10+2) or equivalent qualifying examination in 2006 must secure at least 60 % marks in the aggregate in their respective board examination.
2.A student can have only two attempts to write JEE with affect from 2006- in the year in which he or she passes the 12th standard examination and /or in the Following year
3.Candidate who joins any of the IITs, IT-BHU and ISM, Dhanbad through JEE – 2006 will not be permitted to appear in JEE Future.
I am trying to move our discussion towards strategically direction. It is just an attempt in my frame of reference but our Great Alumni, professors and students can give better solution. So please try to create more ideas for legacy of IITian spirits.
“It is more important to do what is strategically right than what is immediately profitability” ------ Prof. Philip Kotlar (Northwestern university)
MISSION 1: Reduce the influence of the coaching classes
FUTURE IMPACT: Now coaching classes will target 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 12+1.So it is easy task for them. Still they have “5 years” for coaching. So I think that coaching will shift back to two years and solution of problem will enter in to “CIRCULAR LOOP”. So estimate the stress level. Now stress will spread to 9th, 10th also.
In a previous pattern, some students prepare IIT JEE self-basis. But after this, Students will not have any chance. So he definitely joins coaching classes.
Finally coaching institute will get “5 years” with this pattern and more students. So it is better for coaching Institute.
MISSION 2: Restored sanity of school system:
IDEAS: I think that sanity of school system depends on education system. Please compare our education system with American and Japanese Education system. Can we diversify our education system in different areas, which are emerging due to Globalization. Can we add practical aspects in education and vocation training so that student will make his life own way? Can we add one element in our education – INTEREST? Can we design our education system so that a student will develop
Physical, mental, emotional and spiritual strengths. Actually our basic aims to create a conducive environment in which children freely choose his goal irrespective to any pressure.
Myth: Reduce stress level (in new IIT JEE pattern)
REALITY: Students feel stresses because of our bookish education system. Basic reason of stress is high level of competition. We can compare this exam with UPSC civil service exam in which numbers of seats are only 450 so stress level is very very high in this exam but still this exam is absolute free in all criteria and judge on the basis of exam.
One more thing if number of applying students is about 3 lacks and selected candidates are about 3500 then we can not reduce stress level by changing the exam pattern until we does not enhance number of IITs. I think that it is a right time, if we worked opening new IITs with stabilizing its core values (IIT brand).
We should work at grass roots level. I think that stresses are a part of life because IITian are leaders & entrepreneurs. They have a habit of taking risk so it is a chance for design a robust brain. Can we give them spiritual strength (India is a leader of the leader in spirituality)?
NEW EXAM PATTERN: If we say that new exam pattern is ok. I will say there is no problem. But basic problem is about these controlled eligible criteria and final mission. We should change exam pattern according to change of time. But what is the motive of eligible criteria. I think that any eligible criteria should satisfy all segments of students like urban, rural, central board and state board (overlapping also) in large extent simultaneously. It is very complex but we have to solve it genuinely.
ELIGIBLE CRITERIA: I have already mentioned 5 question (in my last article: IIT Exam reform: solution or create more questions – please care to all student at www. Thomso.net) about strategically draw back in these criteria.
FUTURE IMPACT:
1.It will reduce number of rural students in IIT System
2.Create more stress on students
3. Now all Students will join coaching institute due to uncertainty.
4. Reduction in choices (may effects research work also in future)
5. Gap will increase between central board and state board students.
6. Quality of students will decrease (in IIT System)
7. Most important thing, it will effects IIT Core value (IIT BRAND)
My final word: Finally we are requesting to policy maker, please care to all children.I think that the future of children is more than any system, any rules & regulation or any thing else. Can we compromise the future of coming generation?
Can we compromise IIT core value( IIT Brand) ? Can we give conducive environment in which every child can release own capability? I think that our nation are going on path of developed nation so please give our children better education because coming years are knowledgeable era. And I think that Definitely India will lead all country in this era because we are already very rich in knowledge, which is reinforced by our universal scripture like Vedanta, Upanishad and Bhagvat Gita etc. (very scientific universal timeless wisdom.
I am concluding this article with few lines from BUILD TO LAST co-author by Prof James C. Collins & Jerry I Porras (Stanford University)
“Above all, there was the ability to build and build and build – never stopping, never looking back, never finishing – the institution”
With best wishes ………Ajay
